This area is the culmination of a long history of passion of the Tarbouriech family, oyster farmers for three generations, for the oyster and its natural environment on the edge of the Thau lagoon, near Sète. This small oyster farm, created in 1962, has gradually diversified in order to create complementary experiences to its main activity of oyster production. Thus, in turn, an oyster bar, cosmetic products, and since 2018, a small charming hotel rooted in an ecotourism approach.
There are many advantages here: the sea air, the culinary specialties of the region, of course, but also a superb heated swimming poola soothing wellness center and a multitude of activities within a truly exceptional setting. Indeed, the Etang de Thau is at the forefront of biodiversity on the scale of the Mediterranean basin. Domaine Tarbouriech also benefits from being located in the largest vineyard in France. The oyster farm is the heart of the estate, and has been keen to respect its environment for 50 years, in particular thanks to its “Solar tide” system, built with wind turbines and photovoltaic panels. This exclusive and patented breeding method allows the oysters to be taken out of the water every day, which has made the famous ” Tarbouriech pink oysters » an exceptional product.
To go and recharge your batteries in this place that is both refined and authentic, you will have to go to Marseillan, easily accessible by car. Agde TGV station (25 minutes by car from the estate) and Sète TGV station (35 minutes by car) are the closest. Note that a trip from Paris lasts 3h50 on average.
Thematic accommodation with neat decoration
Domaine Tarbouriech is a intimate refuge with only 15 rooms and suites. Each of its accommodations is decorated with a very particular theme. Four bedrooms and suites are located in the main house, and nine lodges are located in the barn. Finally, 2 residences and the spa are housed in the vats of the cellar of this former wine estate.
Among the different rooms, let’s mention in particular the Japan room of 26 m², equipped with a large terrace of 36 m² with Japanese garden and outdoor bed, ideal for enjoying the southern air.
The Casanova room reveals a boudoir atmosphere, with a view of the lagoon and the vineyards. It has a 17th century copper tub and an Italian shower. Legend has it that Casanova would have stayed near the estate to satisfy his desire for oysters… Aphrodisiac?
Domaine Tarbouriech also offers the possibility of staying in one of its lodges. Able to accommodate 3 to 5 people, they are more spacious and have a kitchenette. The Garden Lodges have the privilege of having a large private garden of 80 m², and their own private jacuzzi!
Ostreatherapy: well-being through oysters!
Faithful to its values and its passion, Domaine Tarbouriech has placed the oyster at the center of well-being by creating its own concept, “Ostreatherapy”. It’s a bit like the answer to the concept of Vinotherapy created by the Sources de Caudalie, and you had to think about it! For several years, the Domaine has been developing care protocols related to the virtues of shellfish and seawater. Oysters are, in fact, superfoods naturally rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
The idea of Domaine Tarbouriech was to use its active ingredients with cosmetic and therapeutic virtues as we have done in China for millennia, and to decline them in care, cosmetology and food supplements. Within the Ostreatherapy Spa, several types of treatments can be provided: massages, facials, body treatments and signature rituals. They are somewhat similar to what can be found in other more “classic” spas, but always with a nod to oysters.
The treatments use Ostrealia cosmetic products based on natural products, 100% French, produced on site and which are sold at the shop! To live a unique well-being experience, a signature ritual is essential. One of them is a massage of the whole body, provided with an Ostrealia oil, and followed by a mask with salicornia (a maritime plant)
