Unboxing of the Fossil Q Founder
The packaging of the Fossil watch unfortunately does not play in its favor … Indeed, we would have liked to have packaging that lived up to the brand’s reputation ! So, what a disappointment when you open the package to discover only one simple white cardboard box… Nevertheless, the box is well organized and all the useful elements are here.
The packaging is divided into two levels : in the first one we find the watch which is placed on a display and in the second level we find power and connection accessories and cables.
What’s smart about the Fossil Q Founder’s unboxing is that the support which is used to present the watch in its box is in fact its support for the charge, just place the watch and it charges with a simple touch. This way of charging the latest generation still adds to the added value of the watch itself. In the second level, the packaging is very classic, we find a USB-MiniUSB cable and one user and warranty manual.
Design and ergonomics
The design and ergonomics on this product remains overall its biggest asset. Indeed, it is a fairly massive watch model but which remains very beautiful and elegant, the rather refined design makes it classy. The dial is made of steel and the strap is made of brown leather, so it can be put in many circumstances like at work, in meetings, in the evening, … Even if its look is massive as we said, it’s not as heavy as it looks when you wear it. On the other hand, the dial is imposing and if you wear long and fairly tight sleeves, you might be embarrassed… It happened to me several times during the Review that I got stuck in my environment because of her.
However, it should be noted that the watch Fossil makes no claim to be a smart health connected sports watch. But what is widely appreciated for lovers of classic watches is thatit looks like a watch and not a futuristic smart health smart health connected object. On the other hand, even if the Fossil Q Founder is very beautiful, it will quickly seem ridiculous on thin wrists…
What’s really cool about this watch is that thanks to an ingenious system, the user can easily change the bracelet of his watch and thus adapt his watch with his look. In addition it is equipped on its dial with a sort of black bar on the bottom of the screen. It’s actually a light sensor which is extremely practical when moving from light to shade, especially in the city and when traveling.
Application
The application associated with the Fossil watch is supposed to be compatible with Android and iOS, unfortunately, having been tested with an iPhone, we quickly realize that the compatibility between iPhone and Google operating system is not that great.
However, the application is quite simple and easy to use, simply connect your watch and you can receive notifications, news, messages. This application has the advantage of being practical because you can have access to a certain amount of information from his mobile phone, directly to his Fossil Q Founder smart health connected watch.
The recharging unit
The One-touch wireless charging unit at first glance may seem like a good thing. But even if it has the merit of appearing futuristic because it uses the latest technologies, it is not impractical neither in use nor during transport. The system is wobbly when you put the watch on it and it’s not a charger that you can wrap around it to put it in a small pocket… It’s a shame because it really gave the watch added value compared to other models of smart health connected watches .
Using the Fossil Q Founder
In terms of general characteristics, athletes can forget this model of smart health connected watch since she doesn’t even have no heart rate sensor. However, it has a word sensor and thanks to this function, the user can control his watch by voice, a very practical function when you are traveling or when it is cold and you wear gloves for example. Unfortunately, the battery appears as a big defect in the watch… Indeed, during the Review carried out by our expert, the battery barely lasted a day (from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m.) while usage was still reduced! At the level of the commands present on the watch, a button on the side is used to turn off the device and return to the health home screen from the Fossil Q Founder.
Finally, this watch does not appear not very intuitive as a whole… For a layman of new technologies every functions of the watch are not clearly understood immediately.
Even if it’s not the most fun feature of the device, it’s the one that takes the most time. So if there are more than 18 different dials, you get tired quickly and they are far from all pretty. One feature seems to be the most successful anyway: Google voice recognition and control. Not only is it effective, but its utility is only proven in some cases in the end. There also seem to be some bugs in this feature: for example, when the user requests a voice translation for the English word “morning” for example, the response is automatically sent to the smartphone. So what interest would you tell me to have a smart health connected watch in this specific case?
Generally, this watch will perfectly adapt to the needs of a businessman, it is classy and limits a little flashy, but its noble materials make it a premium watch, too bad the features do not follow…
Fossil Q Founder facing the competition
Of many smart health connected watches are already on the market… Unfortunately compared to its price and the limited functionality offered by the Fossil brand, this one is not in a very good position. Its biggest competitor will undoubtedly be the very sporty Moto 360 of the Asian brand Motorola. Because if they are both fairly comparable in terms of size and asking price, the Moto 360 is a multifunction watch for athletes and for everyday life.
So we can still say that in terms of design, the Fossil Q Founder is the prettiest (in addition it is much cheaper than Apple Watches with a leather strap) but she fishes at the bottom, which is a shame.
Conclusion
Finally, after this Review, we can say without hesitation that the aesthetics of the watch which plays at first in its favor makes the fall even greater, however its look remains beautiful and the materials are of good quality. Its battery is still not bad compared to other watches. By cons, the problem of compatibility between iPhones and Google its damage. Overall it remains a fairly heavy watch that is not made for most wrists.
We were quite disappointed with this watch as a whole, because if it looked very beautiful at first, we were disillusioned by deepening the Review, which is very unfortunate for the Fossil brand which has a good reputation to the public.
