Feature

The new Insta360 GO 2 is only the size of a thumb, weighs less than 27 grams and offers high-resolution and, thanks to FlowState stabilization, always shake-free images. Thanks to the built-in magnets and numerous accessories, the small camera can be attached almost anywhere and thus enables exciting recordings from countless perspectives.

Whether for skiing, climbing, diving or the next bike tour: Weighing just 26.5 grams, the new Insta360 GO 2 is an absolute lightweight and, according to the manufacturer, the thumb-sized device is also the smallest action cam in the world. In addition to high-resolution recordings, the Insta360 GO 2 also offers powerful video stabilization and thus enables shake-free recordings. Another unique selling point is the simple but practical attachment method, which means that there are virtually no limits to the camera perspective. Whether on yourself, the car or your own pet, the Insta360 GO 2 can be attached anywhere.

A camera that attaches everywhere

At first glance, it looks like the GO version 1 to be mistaken. In fact, this second model is slightly heavier at 27 g. We always stay in the extremely light, of course. While the previous model was only resistant to splashes and very limited immersion, this GO can be used for longer periods underwater, in a swimming pool or at sea, without a case up to 4 m deep.

To capture photos and videos, the GO 2 uses a 1 / 2.3-inch 9-megapixel sensor. The latter takes images in 3040 x 3040 px square format, but subsequently exported in 16: 9 format. Ditto for videos recorded in 2880 x 2880 format, then exported to WQHD, i.e. 2560 x 1440 px. In this mode, capture takes place at up to 60 fps. However, if we activate Insta360’s in-house 6-axis stabilization, called flowstate, the maximum rate drops to 30 fps. For slow motion, it is possible to capture at 120 fps, but then you will have to be satisfied with the Full HD definition. Recording is done on the internal 32 GB memory of the camera.

A modified case as a real novelty

The “big” difference between the first model and the GO 2 mainly concerns the case. On the elder, it only allowed the camera to be recharged and the files to be transferred to a smartphone. With the GO 2, the box has been modified to serve as a mini remote control or tripod. It also has a few keys and a control monitor. The main strength of the GO 2 remains its ability to clip everywhere, from the surfer to the dog, even on the wing of an airplane.

The charging case now also serves as a remote control and tripod

Like the previous model, the second generation of the Insta360 GO can not only be carried in your pocket, but can also be perfectly attached to almost any location. On a T-shirt as a chain to hang around on, on magnetic surfaces without any accessories, with a clip on the headband, hat or dog collar and thanks to the pivot stand also on the surfboard and other surfaces. What is new, however, is the included charge case with a 1,100 mAh battery, which looks a bit like the charging case of Apple’s AirPods, and fully charges the camera within 35 minutes. Compared to the previous model, the action cam can no longer only be charged, but the case also serves as a remote control. The camera can be controlled from a distance of up to 10 meters via Bluetooth. Thanks to the tripod function, the Insta360 GO 2 can also be optimally positioned in the case and there is also a 1/4 inch threaded hole on the underside for a tripod. If you leave the Insta360 GO 2 in the case during use, you also benefit from a significantly longer battery life. According to the manufacturer, the action cam lasts up to 150 minutes before it needs power again. For comparison: The GoPro Hero9 Black achieved a very similar value in our test with 148 minutes. The Insta360 GO 2 can definitely keep up on this point.

Video stabilization through algorithms

According to the manufacturer, the camera itself lasts around 30 minutes with its 210 mAh battery and is very minimalist. There are no connections, only a connector on the magnetic back and buttons for operation are in vain. Only the plain white surface on the front serves as a button that offers various functions by single, double and long click. A standard video is started with a simple click, in which the 1 / 2.3 ″ image sensor records with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels at up to 50 frames per second. If you use the Insta360 GO 2 in action-packed and shaky situations, you should definitely use the FlowState mode. Algorithms compensate for all movements here and thus ensure a clear and wobble-free video without the use of a gimbal. In addition to the aforementioned Basic and FlowState stabilization, there is also an HDR, timelapse, time shift and slow motion mode. All video recordings are saved in MP4 and photos in INSP or as RAW files in DNG format on the internal memory of the Insta360 GO 2. The second generation with 32 gigabytes now offers four times the memory size of the previous model.

Artificial intelligence for video editing via app

Elaborate video editing was yesterday, because the recordings of the Insta360 GO 2 are not only managed and exported with the associated smartphone app, but also cut using artificial intelligence. The feature is called FlashCut 2.0 and can thus independently highlight the best moments from all videos and use appropriate background music. The app offers suitable templates for topics such as travel or sports. Alternatively, you can also select the best recordings yourself and then edit and cut them together using FlashCut by artificial intelligence. Thanks to the WiFi connection, the video files can not only be copied into the app, but a preview during the recording is now also possible on the smartphone. The videos created are limited in duration: a FlowState video can last up to 10 minutes, with basic stabilization a maximum of 15 minutes and a three-hour timelapse results in a 30-minute clip.

SOME PRACTICAL ACCESSORIES

Insta360 GO 2 review As we said, “immersion” is the key word with this Insta360 GO 2. Its small size, its design and its accessories allow it to be fixed almost anywhere. An “easy clip” clip is provided to hang it on a shirt, a cap visor, a headband, etc. A pendant module allows the camera to be worn around the neck, while concealing the magnetic base under light clothing. Indeed, the camera itself has a magnetic back allowing it to be attached to a variety of mounts. There is also a clever “pivot stand” as well as a protective protective lens to limit the risk of scratches on the lens. Note that the manufacturer will also offer a series of ND filters to improve the quality of the image under certain light conditions. There is also no doubt that the range of accessories will expand. Moreover, it should be noted that the external case has a screw thread allowing you to attach the camera to a selfie stick, as well as the whole panoply of mounts.

Price and availability

The Insta360 GO 2 is now available at a price of $319.99 . In addition to the action cam itself, the scope of delivery also includes the following accessories: Charge case including remote control and TriPod tripod Magnetic pendant (allows hanging as a chain) Easy clip (for attachment to T-shirts or caps) Swivel mount (for mounting on surfaces) Lens protection [maxbutton name="Discover More" text="Buy FROM Insta360 Official Site" url="https://www.insta360.com/sal/go_2?insrc=INRNKLA"]

Conclusion:Inexpensive action cam with strong features

Despite its extremely small shape, the action cam delivers great shots. The FlowState stabilization is also clearly noticeable and enhances the recordings quite a bit. For the future, we would still like the possibility of recording videos in 4K video quality. Thanks to the water resistance, lots of accessories and the magnetic back, there are virtually no limits to its use and the camera can be taken with you and attached anywhere. The associated app was also able to convince us. The connection was very easy via WLAN and then both the live preview and remote control were possible without any problems. Recordings can not only be easily managed there, but also exported directly from the app. The creation of automatic videos using FlashCut also works surprisingly well. To do this, simply select one of the countless templates, e.g. for vacation, ski vacation or vlog, select the required number of clips and the Insta360 app automatically creates a video. Overall, the Insta360 GO 2 definitely convinced us on the first impression and the price of around $320  is absolutely fair with the existing range of functions.
