The design of the R-PUR Nano Light mask

The mask is made of a fabric with a water-repellent coating on the outside. That is to say, it repels moisture and does not let it penetrate its fibers to preserve its breathability. And indeed, if water droplets fall on it, it does not pass through the mask. The part in contact with the face has a coating described as antiperspirant and temperature regulator. Everything comes from an essentially French company that works with quality materials. For this aspect, not much to complain about, the fabric seems robust enough to withstand intensive use. Turned downwards, the mask takes the form of a funnel. In other words, its extremities stick to the face while the center is well away from the mouth as well as the nose. At the end, an aluminum ring ensures the maintenance of the assembly and allows the filter valve to pass.

R-PUR offers two options with two variants each for the appearance of the mask:

• ceramic : Black with gray or gold dotted dimples
• reflective : Black or white with night reflective exterior

Ready to use?

To wear it, you must first place the filter inside. The system is very simple and does not require detaching the valve since it is integrated into the filter. There are four small velcro patches on it which cling without difficulty to the mask. That’s it, it won’t move! The fabric of the mask then benefits from the rigid structure of the filter and does not risk losing its initial shape. To install it on its head, R-PUR has equipped the Nano Light with two different attachments. The first attaches to the back of the top of the skull while the second is placed behind the neck. Finally, the nose clip present in the filter allows you to make the final adjustments. Note that this mask was first designed to be worn with a bicycle or motorcycle helmet. So don’t worry about combining the two.

What about aesthetics?

As you can see, this mask is rather bulky in comparison to others. It covers a good part of your face and goes up to the top of the nose or almost. In the eyes of others, it is necessarily more conspicuous and less banal than surgical masks or fabric versions. Despite this, the Nano Light does not attack the retina that much since it retains sober colors and patterns. Also, sIts imposing appearance and its look of technical clothing make it a coherent element within the equipment of an athlete.

Before looking at its breathability and comfort, let’s look at Nano technology. All the filters of the brand are equipped with it and have five layers to ensure wearer protection:

• A diaper water repellent
• Two coats for filtration of particles up to 50 nanometers
• A layer at activated carbon effective against gases and odors
• An inner layer shape memory and anti-humidity

According to tests carried out by the Apave Group’s independent laboratory, the whole guarantees a filtration of 99.57% of the particles and an airtightness which ensures that 99.94% of the air breathed passes through the filter. Regarding the first statistic, it means that the Nano Light filters as many particles as FFP3 certified masks see more ! As for the second statistic, it is the rigid structure of the filter and its shape memory foam that make it reach this value. The latter adapts to the user’s face and becomes a tight seal that isolates their breathing from the outside. In short, the Nano Light has a really effective filtration against pollution. Note that the durability of the filters is at least 5 weeks according to R-PUR. Which greatly surpasses those of other masks.

Breathing with the R-PUR Nano Light on the nose

Here we are ! Once installed and adjusted, it is difficult to move the mask without wanting to. Maybe his ties and their placements displease some people, but that’s not our case. We did not feel any unpleasant pressure either on the head or in the neck, even after an hour with it. On the other hand, sIf you are used to thin and light surgical masks, the Nano Light may keep you particularly warm during your first uses. As for breathing, it is really easy despite the presence of a mask. Indeed, the valve at the front of the filter effectively evacuates the air and thus limits the discomfort that can be felt during exercise. This comfort is enhanced by the large space between the face and the filter which reduces the feelings of suffocation that a mask can provide. No risk of it sticking to your mouth.

For the occasion, we did a little bodyweight workout. This confirmed our impressions, because the R-PUR Nano Light did not cause any noticeable discomfort during the exercises (burpees, push-ups, pull-ups). On a bike at a normal pace, the observation remains the same. In the case of an activity with a high respiratory intensity, a little extra effort will probably be necessary.

The features of the R-PUR application

If the online store gives a very wide range on the usage time of a filter, this is because it is assessed individually using the R-PUR application. The QR code on the certificate of authenticity takes you there and “activates” your filter. Thereafter, it will define its level of wear according to your geolocation and the activity routine that you give it. The application includes 5 different uses on which the wearer indicates the time they take in each day of the week. This information combines with your location’s air pollution data to form a filter health percentage. The application also has a history to modify your previous activities if necessary and thus update the level of wear. We regret the fact that adding a new filter erases the previous one. This means that you cannot monitoring the wear of two filters simultaneously.

Useful information about your environment

The application indicates a score for the dust, gas and microparticles present at your location. The higher it is, the greater their quantities and therefore dangerous. For example, a number equal to or greater than 31 is average for dust according to R-PUR. These three scores together form theWHOSE (air quality index). As long as its value remains below 50, the quality is considered good. In addition, the application warns you of pollution peaks near you.

Accessories for the R-PUR Nano Light mask

First of all, the firm obviously offers Nano replacement filters at €29 each. If the basic small carry bag is not suitable for you, a hard case is available to replace it in exchange for around thirty euros. It must also be recognized that the bag pales in comparison and remains much less practical. To ensure smooth washing of the Nano Light, R-PUR also sells a useful bag for this function. With it, you can put it in the washing machine at 30°C without any worries as long as the filter is separated from it.
