Presented at CES 2020 by Withings as the most advanced smart connected health watch in the world, the Withings ScanWatch has an advantage compared to the market leader, the Apple Watch.
The model not only continuously scans the heart rate and offers an EKG, it can also detect sleep apneal. These advanced medical features position it as a serious competitor to the Californian brand’s smartwatch. But we will have to wait a bit before crowning a new queen.
ScanWatch takes the main lines of Withings
In fact, the ScanWatch is very similar to another Withings smart health connected watch, the Steel HR. So, she is hybrid type, with mechanical hands on its dial.
Notifications and similar information are displayed via a small PMOLED screen. Among other things, the device can track heart rate, the number of steps taken or the amount of calories burned.
Health at the heart of this smart health connected watch
The big news highlighted by Withings on its ScanWatch is the detection of sleep apnea. Note, this is a sleep disorder characterized by breathing stops during the night. In fact, many people suffer from it without even realizing it.
Hence the interest of the ScanWatch which measures the oxygen saturation in the blood in real time. Coupled with nocturnal movements, these data make it possible to diagnose sleep apnea. If so, the watch will notify its owner.
However, Withings’ new smartwatch is not not the only one to offer sleep apnea detection. Indeed, the French startup IEVA also took advantage of the 2020 edition of CES to unveil its Time-C, a watch offering similar functionality.
But Withings also equipped his ScanWatch with an ECG. Already present on the Apple Watch, this device has saved several people by detecting heart abnormalities.
In any case, the new model of Withings should be available in autumn at 249 dollars (38 mm model) and 299 dollars (42 mm). It will be waterproof up to 50 meters deep and will offer an autonomy of 30 days.
