Title: Kings, builders, walls shape neighborhoods
Review: I lived in Paris and often wondered why the arrondisements have unique attributes as well as about other mysteries I would stumble upon during my walks. Russell Kelley has done thorough research and makes it seem he is walking with you, revealing secrets of Paris. He writes clearly and has great historical photos or drawings. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know why some places are precious and what determination various leaders had to change their city. Paris has been important in culture, food, luxury, so many things. I want to return to Paris after reading Kelleyâs book to discover new places I missed or didnât appreciate at the time. Viva la France!

Title: Wonderful Book
Review: This is truly a book for Paris lovers. Wonderfully researched and well written, it provides a fascinating history of the great city and the historic figures who made it into what it is today. Kelley traces the creation of Paris all the way back to Roman times with an extraordinary collection of maps, artwork and photographs that make it virtually a guidebook to the myriad beautiful sights of The City of Light.

Review: Very thorough explanation of the urban history of Paris, with the essential historic and political background. Definitely NOT for a tourist new to Paris, but wonderful for a person who either lives in Paris or has some familiarity with the city and wants to know more of the history of the arrondissements, boulevards, avenues, squares and historic streets and buildings, and how they have evolved from Roman times to contemporary Paris. Very nicely illustrated with numerous historical pictures or paintings depicting the evolution of the city.If you are not familiar with the names of most streets and squares, it is very useful to have a map of Paris nearby — not included in the book. Google Maps and Streetview were the perfect companions for me.I rate it 4 stars and not 5 because the pictures shown in the preview are in color, the copy I received were in rather blurry black and white.
